Job Description:

The Assistant Comptroller is responsible for leadership of the accounting and reporting efforts related to the College's endowment fund, federal financial aid and externally funded grants.  Reporting to the Comptroller, this position includes the oversight, reconciliation, reporting and compliance verification activities of all federal financial aid funds, externally funded grant progremas and endowment funds received by the College, as well as completion of the College's annual tax return.  Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the College is in compliance with all Federal Financial Aid accounting policies
  • Unitize and manage distribution of endowment funds and earnings to appropriate restricted and unrestricted accounts
  • Conduct review of revenue and expenditures, prepare required financial data and report, and assure proper accounting transactions are made in support of the College's endowment, externally funded grants and financial aid fund management.
  • Review the monthly endowment investment statements for accuracy and compliance with College investment guides.
  • Resolve problems relative to federal financial aid funds in conjunction with the Bursar's Office and the Financial Aid Office
  • In conjunction with the College's Institutional Advancement Department, prepare required financial data, analysis and annual reports associated with the endowment fund, including stewardship reports and NACUBO reporting
  • Prepare the College's annual tax filing in conjunction with the auditors

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Accounting, CPA required
  • At least 3 years progressively responsible accounting experience in a higher education setting, and/or at least 3 years experience as a CPA auditing higher education clients
  • Experience in fund accounting, federal financial aid and grant accounting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal financial Aid accounting policies in the higher education setting
  • Familiarity with the Higher Education Reauthorization Act and the most recent enhancements with respect to accounting treatments
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to facilitate large, multi-discipline groups
  • Strong written communications skills
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word; SCT Banner preferred
